Tin Halide Perovskites: From Fundamental Properties to Solar Cells

Matteo Pitaro et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskites, particularly tin-based compounds, show promise for optoelectronic applications, with lead-based compounds being toxic and harmful to the environment. Although tin-based perovskites offer advantages such as near-optimal bandgap and good charge carrier mobilities, their efficiency is currently limited by low defect tolerance, fast crystallization, and oxidative instability. Efforts are being made to improve tin-based perovskite solar cells, focusing on strategies to enhance device performances and address existing challenges in a concerted manner.

Summary: Research on simple perovskite oxides, manganites, is being conducted extensively due to their electrical, magnetic, and photocatalytic properties. This paper describes the preparation of manganites with the general formula A(1-x)Sr(x)MnO(3) (A = Ca, Ba, La) using the coprecipitation method. The study successfully obtained doped manganites in all systems, with the positions and shapes of carbonate bands in the FTIR spectra of carbonate precursors proving useful for screening successful syntheses of doped manganites, especially in the Ca1-xSrxMnO3 and La1-xSrxMnO3 systems.

Approach to the Characterization of Monolithic Catalysts Based on La Perovskite-like Oxides and Their Application for VOC Oxidation under Simulated Indoor Environment Conditions

Ornel Padilla et al.

Summary: Catalysts play a crucial role in controlling pollutant emissions and are widely used in various chemical processes. This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of lanthanum-based perovskite-like oxide catalysts, which were supported onto cordierite ceramic monoliths. The results showed that the monolithic catalysts had a decrease in lattice oxygen species, and the interaction between cordierite and Co-containing catalysts was stronger. The catalytic activity results revealed that LaMn-S exhibited the best performance for VOC oxidation under dry conditions. The presence of moisture and higher VOC concentrations significantly affected the oxidation efficiency of the catalysts.

Catalytic feasibility of Ce-doped LaCoO3 systems for chlorobenzene oxidation: An analysis of synthesis method

Hector Acosta Perez et al.

Summary: Ce-doped LaCoO3 perovskites show promising catalytic performance for the elimination of Cl-VOCs. The insertion of Ce in the perovskite structure promotes the formation of Co2+/Co3+ and Ce3+/Ce4+ redox pairs and oxygen vacancies, leading to enhanced catalytic activity. Ce-doped LaCoO3 samples prepared by reactive grinding exhibit comparable performance to those synthesized by the citrate method, demonstrating the feasibility of this green chemistry alternative. The stability of the samples under total combustion reaction conditions is excellent, with sustained activity for 45 hours.

Revisiting the valence stability and preparation of perovskite structure type oxides ABO3 with the use of Madelung electrostatic potential energy and lattice site potential

Masahiro Yoshimura et al.

Summary: The stability of aliovalent ions in ionic crystals is closely related to lattice site potential and Madelung electrostatic potential. The formation of perovskite structure type compounds can be energetically favorable with higher Madelung electrostatic potential compared to parent binary compounds. Strong lattice site potential results in stability of high valence ions, with some experiencing maximum lattice site potential at specific lattice sites. Analysis of lattice site potential and Madelung electrostatic potential can rationalize the stability or instability of certain compounds with uncommon valence states.

Orthorhombic Y0.95-xSrxCo0.3Fe0.7O3-δ anode for oxygen evolution reaction in solid oxide electrolysis cells

Weicheng Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of novel orthorhombic perovskite oxides YSCF-x were synthesized as anode materials for SOEC5. The partial substitution of Y3+ by Sr2+ was found to increase oxygen vacancy concentration, mobility, and electrical conductivity, contributing to the excellent OER activity of YSCF-x. At 800 degrees C, the SOEC with YSCF-0.05-Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ anode achieved a current density of 1.32 A cm(-2) at 1.6 V, which was twice that of the SOEC with Y0.95Co0.3Fe0.7O3-δ-Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ anode. This work opens up new possibilities for designing advanced anode materials for SOECs.

Structural changes and pseudo-piezoelectric behaviour of field assisted sintered calcium titanate

Abdullah Riaz et al.

Summary: The study reveals that nanostructured calcium titanate prepared by sol-gel synthesis and field assisted sintering exhibits piezoelectric behavior, while conventionally sintered samples do not. This behavior is attributed to the formation of highly localized defects during field assisted sintering, leading to lattice distortions and the generation of electric dipoles, resulting in pseudo-piezoelectric behavior.
