Microstructure and mechanical properties of atomic layer deposited alumina doped zirconia

Summary: Atomic layer deposited alumina doped zirconia films exhibit advanced mechanical properties, suitable for mechanically resilient coatings. Increasing Al2O3 content stabilizes the cubic polymorph in ZrO2-based films. Films with higher Al2O3 contents show improved performance in terms of hardness and elastic modulus near the substrate.
