Configuration of new fiber-like structure driven high matching of strength-ductility in TiB reinforced titanium matrix composites

Huaduo Wu et al.

Summary: A novel fiber-like structural TiB reinforced titanium matrix composite was designed to achieve a combination of high strength and ductility. Through the improvement of structure and microstructure, the material showed enhanced tensile strength, comparable ductility, higher deformation ability, back stress during loading, and increased strain hardening rate. The higher mechanical response of the TiB/Ti composites is attributed to the introduction of TiB reinforcements with the new fiber-like structure, and the coupling effect of consequent grain refinement, load transferring effect, dislocation pinning effect of the fine TiB particles, back stress strengthening and the higher Schmid factors of prismatic slips.

Synergistic strengthening effect of titanium matrix composites reinforced by graphene oxide and carbon nanotubes

Liangxiao Wei et al.

Summary: Titanium matrix composites reinforced by graphene oxide (GO) and carbon nanotube (CNT) were successfully prepared by hot-pressing sintering. The addition of GO significantly improved the dispersion of CNT and led to the formation of TiC particles in the composite. A significant synergetic effect was observed between GO and CNT, enhancing the mechanical properties of the composite.

Microstructure and superior mechanical property of in situ (TiBw plus TiCp)/ Ti composites with laminated structure

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: The strength and ductility of titanium matrix composites (TMCs) often show a trade-off, but this study successfully achieved a balance between strength and ductility through specific processing methods. By using electrophoretic depositing and spark plasma sintering, a laminated titanium composite with high strength and good ductility was created.

Synergetic enhancement of strength and ductility for titanium-based composites reinforced with nickel metallized multi-walled carbon nanotubes

L. L. Dong et al.

Summary: A new methodology is proposed to enhance both ductility and tensile strength of titanium matrix composites by ball milling Ti-6Al-4V powders with Ni decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes and then sintering the composites powders using spark plasma sintering. The enhanced strength in composites is mainly attributed to the interfacial structures for effectively enhanced load transfer capability between MWCNTs@Ni and Ti matrix. This study provides a new methodology of fabricating metal matrix composites with both high strength and good ductility.

Summary: In this study, Cu modified Ti-6Al-4 V (TC4) powders with different Cu contents were successfully synthesized and strengthened with graphene oxide nanosheets (GONs), leading to improved tribological properties in titanium matrix composites. The effects of Cu contents on microstructure evolution, phase composition and tribological properties were systematically investigated, showing better performance compared to TC4 alloy. The new method proposed in this work is cost-effective and promising for industrial applications in improving the tribological performance of titanium alloys.
