Freestanding Translucent ZnO-Cellulose Nanocomposite Films for Ultraviolet Sensor Applications

Hiroaki Komatsu et al.

Summary: This study presents the preparation of thin and flexible films composed of cellulose nanofibers and zinc oxide nanoparticles through a simple spray coating method. The electrical conductance of the films increased rapidly when the zinc oxide content exceeded 40 wt.%, reaching over 50 nA at 60 wt.%. The nanocomposite film with 60 wt.% zinc oxide exhibited a stable response to UV light exposure and maintained high responsivity and sensitivity even when curved. These environmentally friendly nanocomposite films are expected to be used as flexible UV sensors.
