Regulating interfacial morphology and charge-carrier utilization of Ti3C2 modified all-sulfide CdS/ZnIn2S4 S-scheme heterojunctions for effective photocatalytic H2 evolution

Junxian Bai et al.

Summary: The control of interface morphology and charge-carrier utilization in metal sulfide photocatalysts is crucial for improving the separation efficiency of electrons and holes and increasing the surface reaction active sites. In this study, a Ti3C2/ZIS/CdS composite material was synthesized, which showed improved electron-hole separation efficiency and enhanced charge transfer due to the formation of an all-sulfide S-scheme heterojunction. The addition of Ti3C2 further reduced the recombination of electrons and holes, leading to a high hydrogen production rate.

Optimizing textile dyeing wastewater for tomato irrigation through physiochemical, plant nutrient uses and pollution load index of irrigated soil

Jahidul Hassan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of different stages of textile dyeing wastewater on tomato cultivation. Results showed that T8 (mixed effluent) had excessive heavy metals which led to severe soil salinization, while T2, T3, and T6 treatments had a positive effect on growth and yield of tomato due to lower heavy metal content. Further research is needed to assess the health risks associated with heavy metal accumulation in plants after irrigation with textile dyeing wastewater.

Sunlight-Driven Photocatalytic Degradation of Ciprofloxacin by Carbon Dots Embedded in ZnO Nanostructures

Indrani Mukherjee et al.

Summary: Surface modification of ZnO nanoparticles with carbon dots (CDs) resulted in the formation of ZnO/CD nanocomposites, which exhibited enhanced photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin under sunlight. The improved degradation rate was attributed to enhanced generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibited charge carrier recombination facilitated by the CDs. The ZnO/CD nanocomposites showed stability and efficiency in repeated cycles of operation, making them promising for environmental remediation applications.

Efficient photocatalytic degradation of hazardous pollutants by homemade kitchen blender novel technique via 2D-material of few-layer MXene nanosheets

V Thirumal et al.

Summary: The study focuses on achieving high-quality MXene using a homemade kitchen blender method, emphasizing the importance of high shear mechanical exfoliation for efficient delamination from bulk MAX. The novel approach of combing predicted 2D materials with a blender, and the use of DMSO as a delaminating solvent, is explored for large-scale industrial production of MXene nanosheets. Characterizations and analyses such as SEM, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy were conducted to compare MX-H and MX-B samples, with the blender-made MX-B demonstrating a high photocatalytic efficiency of 98%.

Gabriela-Geanina Vasile et al.

Summary: The study revealed that toxic metals were significantly and differentially accumulated in plant tissues, with notable differences in As and Cd concentrations. Translocation was influenced by the presence of other toxic metals and essential metals, affecting competition and antagonism processes in plant tissues. The extraction of metallic nutrients in plants was not affected by the presence of toxic metal combinations, and Cd and Ni levels were higher in leaves and flowers.

Investigation on (Zn) doping and anionic surfactant (SDS) effect on SnO2 nanostructures for enhanced photocatalytic RhB dye degradation

S. P. Keerthana et al.

Summary: In this study, doping and addition of surfactant were used to enhance the photocatalytic activity of SnO2 nanostructures. The synthesized SDS-(Zn-SnO2) nanostructure showed a 90% degradation rate of RhB dye under visible light, which was 2.5 times higher than the pristine sample. The narrowing of bandgap, smaller crystallite size, and improved growth of nanostructures in SDS-(Zn-SnO2) contributed to its superior performance in degrading toxic pollutants, making it a potential competitor in future wastewater treatment research.

Enhancing Photocatalytic Performance of NH2-UIO66 by Defective Structural Engineering

Zhenmin Xu et al.

Summary: This study synthesized defective NH2-UIO66 (NUX-H) with reduced delta E-LMCT through linkers removal via acid treatment, which substantially improved its photocatalytic activity towards Cr(VI) reduction. The structural defects in NUX-H strongly altered the environment of the Zr atoms and lowered the energy of the unoccupied d orbitals, resulting in efficient LMCT and a 47-fold increase in the reducing rate of Cr(VI) compared to defect-free NU.
