Binder effect on ZnAl2O4-containing high-alumina refractory castables

V. S. Pinto et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of zinc and magnesia spinel generation on the properties of alumina-based castables was investigated. Experimental tests showed that ZnAl2O4 was mainly formed above 800 degrees C, and the addition of high amounts of ZnO or MgO resulted in sample expansion. Furthermore, a refractory with enhanced corrosion behavior was obtained by combining two different spinel phases (MgAl2O4 and ZnAl2O4) in the castable composition.

Refinement of ZnAl2O4 crystal in ZnO-Al2O3-SiO2 glass-ceramics by application of thermoelectric coupling field

Lanlin Yi et al.

Summary: Transparent glass-ceramics based on the ZnO-Al2O3-SiO2 (ZAS) glass system exhibit excellent optical and mechanical properties, which are dependent on the controlled crystal grains. Introduction of a thermoelectric coupling field leads to refinement and dispersion of ZnAl2O4 crystal grains, resulting in improved transmission and hardness of ZAS-based glass-ceramics.

Study on luminescence properties of Ce3+ and Eu3+ ions in a nanocrystalline hexagonal Zn4Al22O37 novel system

Dinesh S. Bobade et al.

Summary: The present study focuses on the synthesis, structure, and luminescent properties of Zn4Al22O37 phosphors doped with cerium (Ce3+) and europium (Eu3+). The phosphors were prepared using a solution combustion synthesis route and their structural properties were examined using various techniques. The luminescence properties were characterized using different excitation wavelengths and the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) color coordinates were determined. The results suggest that these phosphors show potential for use in lighting applications.

Summary: The study investigates the relative stability and optimal positions of intrinsic defects and Cu defects in LiAlO2 crystal, showing that Cu-Li is most stable in O-rich conditions and energetically preferred under O-poor conditions, leading to the optimum OSL signal. Furthermore, other trapped-hole centers such as Cu-Li-V-Li and STH in the crystal also play a role and need to be considered for overall crystal performance.
