Effect of particle size and CO2 treatment of waste cement powder on properties of cement paste

Hamideh Mehdizadeh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of CO2 treatment, particle size, and cement replacement content on the physical properties and microstructure of blended cement paste. The results indicated that carbonation can improve flowability and reduce porosity, while decreasing particle size led to higher compressive strength of the cement paste.

EFFECTS OF FINENESS AND CONTENT OF PHOSPHORUS SLAG ON CEMENT HYDRATION, PERMEABILITY, PORE STRUCTURE AND FRACTAL DIMENSION OF CONCRETE

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the fineness and content of PHS have significant effects on the hydration, mechanical strength, and pore structure of concrete. By controlling the fineness and content of PHS, the negative impact on the early strength of concrete can be mitigated. The concrete added with finely ground PHS shows higher compressive strength and better pore structure refinement at both early and late ages.

Carbonation of calcium sulfoaluminate cement blended with blast furnace slag

Joonho Seo et al.

Summary: The addition of slag did not affect the phase composition of the samples, but promoted the formation of monosulfate and stratlingite during carbonation. Monosulfate and ettringite were the first phases to be carbonated, and the carbonation degree increased significantly with higher slag content, leading to the formation of macropores.

Turning sandstone clay into supplementary cementitious material: activation and pozzolanic reactivity evaluation

Yubin Cao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the transformation of waste sandstone clay into high quality SCM through thermal activation. Activated sandstone clays (ASCs) showed high pozzolanic reactivity and can be used as SCM with rich mineral structure and pozzolanic activity. The study confirmed that even short time calcination improved the pozzolanic reactivity of ASCs, making them suitable for use in cementitious materials.

Effect of direct carbonation routes of basic oxygen furnace slag (BOFS) on strength and hydration of blended cement paste

Mengting Ma et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to determine the optimal conditions for aqueous carbonation of basic oxygen furnace slag (BOFS) in order to maximize CO2 sequestration. The carbonated BOFS was found to have a higher sequestration rate compared to dry carbonation, and when used in blended cement paste, it accelerated the early heat evolution but decreased mechanical strength as the replacement ratio increased. Aqueous carbonation was also found to be more effective in enhancing the properties of blended cement paste due to the presence of nucleation sites.

Study on the particle morphology, powder characteristics and hydration activity of blast furnace slag prepared by different grinding methods

Tusheng He et al.

Summary: This paper compares and studies the particle morphology, particle size distribution (PSD) characteristics, powder characteristics and hydration characteristics of ground granulated blast furnace slag prepared by a ball mill and a vertical roller mill. The study finds that there are differences between the two types of slag particles in terms of particle characteristics and hydration activities, with ball-milled slag showing better hydration activity.

Effect of partial substitution of corn straw fly ash for fly ash as supplementary cementitious material on the mechanical properties of cemented coal gangue backfill

Haochen Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that CSFA can replace up to 40% of fly ash in CCGB, improving its mechanical properties but potentially causing drying shrinkage. Higher substitution amounts led to increased UCS and shear strength. CSFA has a coarser particle size, higher pozzolanic reactivity, more reactive silica/alumina, and later reaction stage compared to fly ash, making it a viable supplementary cementitious material in CCGB.

Properties and microstructure of CO2 activated binder produced by recycling phosphorous slag

Qiao Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the possibility of producing CO2 activated binder by recycling phosphorous slag. The results showed that the compressive strength of PHS specimens increased significantly after CO2 curing, with a densified microstructure attributed to carbonation and compaction. The carbonated PHS particles exhibited a three-layer microstructure, showing the potential of PHS to be used as a CO2 activated binder.
