Flexural behaviour of notched steel beams strengthened with a prestressed CFRP plate subjected to fatigue damage and wetting/drying cycles

Junhui Li et al.

Summary: The application of prestressed CFRP for strengthening steel structures can reduce interfacial stress and delay debonding. Loss of prestress mainly occurs during the hardening stage of the adhesive layer, with the end anchorage system showing effectiveness. Adhesive microcracks induced by fatigue damage and degradation from wetting/drying cycles significantly impact interfacial bonding.

Durability of BFRP bars wrapped in seawater sea sand concrete

Zhongyu Lu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the durability of structures containing BFRP bars wrapped in SWSSC in marine environments through laboratory tests. It was found that alkaline solution is more damaging to BFRP bars and wrapping with thicker SWSSC may result in lower tensile strength retention. Prediction of tensile strength retention based on Arrhenius relationship yielded results that aligned well with experimental findings.

Modeling the fire-induced spalling in concrete structures incorporating hydro-thermo-mechanical stresses

Venkatesh Kodur et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a numerical approach to predict spalling in concrete structural members under fire conditions, taking into account stresses generated due to pore pressure, thermal gradients, and structural loading. Results indicate that pore pressure induced stresses are the primary trigger for spalling, with thermal and mechanical stress levels also influencing spalling occurrence.

Summary: The long-term corrosion resistance of reinforcing steel embedded in alkali-activated slag (AAS) mortar and ordinary Portland cement (OPC) mortar was evaluated after 54 months of aggressive marine environments exposure using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It was found that AAS mortar unexpectedly provided lower corrosion resistance for steel after long-term atmospheric exposure compared to chloride exposure, as evidenced by interfacial morphology and composition of steel corrosion products.
