Soil pockets phosphatization and chemical weathering of sites affected by flying birds of Maritime Antarctica

Summary: This study focuses on the influence of flying birds on soil genesis in ornithogenic soils of Antarctica. The results show that sites influenced by flying birds undergo active chemical weathering processes and phosphatization accelerates mineralogical and micromorphological transformations in soils. However, under the current global warming trend and expected sea-level rise, these ornithogenic environments are vulnerable to accelerated erosion rates.
