Reasons for the Rapid Deactivation of a Cobalt Catalyst in the High-Efficiency Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis of C19+ Hydrocarbons

V. N. Soromotin et al.

Summary: The study shows that increasing the synthesis temperature can reduce the rate of catalyst deactivation under conditions of highly productive Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The thermal agglomeration of cobalt particles and carbonization of catalyst surface have insignificant effects on catalyst activity. A correlation between catalyst deactivation rate and selectivity for C19+ hydrocarbons is found, suggesting that synthesized waxes blocking chain growth centers is the main reason for rapid loss of catalyst activity.

Catalytic activity of gold nanoparticles deposited on N-doped carbon-based supports in oxidation of glucose and arabinose mixtures

Sebastian Franz et al.

Summary: The oxidation of a mixture of glucose and arabinose over gold particles deposited on nitrogen-containing carbon-based mesoporous structures has been investigated, showing higher activity compared to gold deposited on undoped carbon supports. The results suggest that the basic nature of the supports leads to an increase in the polarity of the carbon surface and the activation of oxygen, resulting in selective oxidation of the sugars to aldonic acids.

Oxidation of glucose and arabinose mixtures over Au/Al2O3

Sebastian Franz et al.

Summary: In this study, the oxidation of a mixture of glucose and arabinose over 1% Au deposited on alumina was investigated in a semi-batch reactor, with variations in pH, temperature, and partial pressure of oxygen. Increasing the oxygen partial pressure was found to enhance the reaction rate but also led to a decrease in selectivity to aldonic acids. A kinetic model was developed to represent the catalytic oxidation reactions of arabinose and glucose, as well as their respective isomerization to fructose and ribulose, and the model was able to reliably describe the experimental data.
