Outcomes of Diabetic Foot Ulcers in a Tertiary Referral Interdisciplinary Clinic: A Retrospective Canadian Study

Summary: This study evaluated demographic data, healing rate, recurrence rate, amputation rate, and death rate of patients with diabetic foot ulcers treated in a Quebec outpatient diabetic foot ulcer clinic. Results showed that 37.1% and 54.4% of patients experienced DFU recurrence at 6 months and 12 months after first ulcer healing, with 36.9% undergoing lower limb amputation and 30.6% dying during follow-up.

Predictors of healing, ulcer recurrence and persistence, amputation and mortality in type 2 diabetic patients with diabetic foot: a 10-year retrospective cohort study

Summary: The study found that the majority of patients healed within 7.6 months, with some experiencing DFU persistence, minor or major amputations, and death. Impairment of renal function, previous cardiovascular disease, lower BMI, osteomyelitis, and markers of peripheral artery disease were identified as predictors of different outcomes. These findings suggest possible future strategies for improving prognosis and management of DFU.
