Application of a novel amphiphilic polymer for enhanced offshore heavy oil recovery: Mechanistic study and core displacement test

Xiao Wang et al.

Summary: A molecular modified polyacrylamide with Gemini surfactant monomers (HA1) was evaluated as an alternative for offshore heavy oil recovery. HA1 demonstrated advanced functions such as aqueous-phase viscosifying ability, significant interfacial activity, and reduction of heavy oil viscosity. Coreflooding experiments confirmed the increased oil recovery efficiency achieved by HA1 through improved microscopic efficiency and dispersion of asphaltene aggregates.

Experimental investigation of silica nanoparticle assisted Surfactant and polymer systems for enhanced oil recovery

Dinesh Joshi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of silica nanoparticles, surfactants, and polymers in enhancing oil recovery from oil fields. The synergy of these components is shown to reduce interfacial tension, alter wettability, emulsify, and improve viscosity. Core flooding experiments demonstrate that the nanofluid system provides higher incremental oil recovery, particularly in high permeability cores. Different mechanisms, including wettability alteration and pore plugging, contribute to the increased recovery. This research provides valuable insights into the application of silica nanoparticles with surfactants and polymers as chemical enhanced oil recovery agents.

Experimental Investigation of the Heterogeneity Limit for the Application of Polymer Flooding in Reservoirs

Mingchen Ding et al.

Summary: Through a series of experiments, the heterogeneity limit for polymer flooding in reservoirs was determined, with values of 10.8 and 10.2 for low concentrations, and increased to 52.8 and 50.0 for higher concentrations. Within these limits, significant increases in oil recovery can be achieved through polymer injection.

Study on the effect of polymer viscosity and Darcy velocity on relative permeability curves in polymer flooding

Wenlong Zhang et al.

Summary: Relative permeability curves in polymer flooding were determined using a numerical inversion method, taking into account the physicochemical properties of polymer. It was found that polymer viscosity and Darcy velocity have significant impact on the shape of water relative permeability curve. The prediction model established based on multiple nonlinear regression method was shown to be reliable for predicting relative permeability curves under different polymer viscosities and Darcy velocities.

Enhanced oil recovery mechanisms of polymer flooding in a heterogeneous oil reservoir

Lu Xiangguo et al.

Summary: In polymer flooding, there is no positive correlation between the viscosity of polymer displacement agents and displacement performance. While polymer with sheet-net structure has the ability to increase viscosity, it has poor compatibility with reservoir rock pore throat structure. On the other hand, heterogeneous weak gel system has higher adsorption and retention capacity, making it easier to establish seepage resistance in porous media.
