Indoor home environments of Danish children and the socioeconomic position and health of their parents: A descriptive study

Jonathan Groot et al.

Summary: Housing and indoor home environments are associated with the risk of infections and asthma in children. Parental health and socioeconomic position are strongly related to housing and indoor home environments, and several factors in these environments correlate strongly and cluster together.

Numerical modeling of effective thermal conductivity of hollow silica nanosphere packings

He Liu et al.

Summary: Hollow silica nanosphere packings can suppress heat conduction significantly through voids, small interparticle contact areas, and nanosized pores, showing potential in energy-efficient building applications. Developing a numerical model considering geometric parameters can effectively reduce the thermal conductivity of HSNSPs.

Assessment of the water vapor permeability: Effect of the total pressure

Thierry Duforestel et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates that neglecting the total gas pressure in the theory of gas diffusion leads to an underestimation of water vapor diffusive permeability. The proposed method allows for assessing whether a given water vapor permeability has been underestimated, considering the presence of advective gas permeability. However, the magnitude of the measurement error cannot be estimated. Furthermore, a new experimental procedure is suggested, which enables the determination of both advective gas permeability and diffusive vapor transfer coefficient.

Mechanism of nano-silica to enhance the robustness and durability of concrete in low air pressure for sustainable civil infrastructures

Rui He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of nano-silica (NS) in enhancing the robustness and durability of concrete in low air pressure areas, demonstrating that NS can improve the flexural strength and frost resistance of concrete by densifying the hydration products of air pore walls. The adsorption of NS at air bubble shells entrained by air-entraining agents influences the pore size distribution, leading to an optimized concrete performance. The findings deepen understanding of the fundamental mechanism of NS in concrete in plateau areas and promote its application in creating sustainable built environments.

Simulation and validation of indoor temperatures and relative humidity in multi-zone buildings under occupancy conditions using multi-objective calibration

Sandra Martinez-Marino et al.

Summary: Buildings are expected to be energy efficient, comfortable, and durable, which are influenced by indoor relative humidity. Controlling and predicting indoor environmental conditions is necessary. Simulating indoor temperature and relative humidity in a multi-zone building model can improve accuracy of building energy simulations and ensure occupants' comfort and health.

Effects of moisture ingress and egress on the performance and service life of mass timber products in buildings: a review

Maryam Shirmohammadi et al.

Summary: This paper summarises the existing literature on water ingress and egress in mass timber products, focusing on the gap in knowledge regarding water absorption and desorption characteristics compared to solid wood. It highlights the need for further research on climate effects, particularly in hotter and more humid environments, and emphasizes the differences in climate impact on mass timber products in various regions.
