Risk of Early-Onset Depression Associated With Polygenic Liability, Parental Psychiatric History, and Socioeconomic Status

Esben Agerbo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the individual and joint associations of polygenic risk scores (PRS), parental history, and socioeconomic status (SES) with the relative and absolute risk of early-onset depression. Results indicate that these risk factors do not confound each other, and different combinations of risk factors can significantly impact the absolute risk of depression before the age of 30.

Multifocal and Accommodating Intraocular Lenses for the Treatment of Presbyopia A Report by the American Academy of Ophthalmology

Julie M. Schallhorn et al.

Summary: Presbyopia-correcting lenses are effective in improving near and distance visual acuity after cataract surgery and reducing dependence on glasses. However, compared to monofocal lenses, patients using multifocal and EDOF lenses experience decreased contrast sensitivity and more visual phenomena.

Evaluation of Shared Genetic Susceptibility to High and Low Myopia and Hyperopia

J. Willem L. Tideman et al.

Summary: Through genetic association studies, it was found that genetic risk variants are shared across high myopia, low myopia, and hyperopia, as well as between European and Asian samples. Individuals with high myopia inherited a higher number of variants from among the same set of myopia-predisposing alleles and not different risk alleles compared with individuals with low myopia.

Ocular Causes for Headache

Elena Nguyen et al.

Summary: Ocular causes of headaches include refractive error, convergence insufficiency, and accommodative spasm. Symptoms of refractive error headache are correlated with the amount of refractive error, while patients with convergence insufficiency or accommodative spasm may experience diplopia and strabismus. These headaches typically occur at the end of the day and are associated with an increased amount of near work.
