The mediating role of lifestyle in the relationship between shift work, obesity and diabetes

Gerben Hulsegge et al.

Summary: The study found that shift workers are more likely to be obese and have diabetes compared to non-shift workers, with poor sleep quality mediating this relationship. Lower physical activity levels and poor diet were also shown to be mediators for the relationship between shift work and obesity. Targeting interventions towards improving sleep quality, physical activity, and diet specifically for shift workers could potentially reduce the negative health effects associated with shift work.

The effectiveness of workplace health promotion programs on self-perceived health of employees with a low socioeconomic position: An individual participant data meta-analysis

Hanneke van Heijster et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the impact of workplace health promotion programs on the self-perceived health of employees with a low socioeconomic position, and whether there were differential effects based on gender, marital status, or age. The overall intervention did not show improvement in self-perceived health for this group, with no differences found across gender, marital status, and age. Future research may focus on other determinants of self-perceived health in addition to health behavior to enhance the health of low SEP employees.
