Natural Enantiomers: Occurrence, Biogenesis and Biological Properties

Jin-Hai Yu et al.

Summary: The knowledge that natural products can modulate important biomacromolecules has led to the discovery of successful pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. However, the study of naturally occurring pairs of enantiomers is still largely unexplored. This review provides an overview of recent records on natural enantiomers, aiming to increase awareness and understanding of their chemical diversity, biological properties, and therapeutic potential.

New dimeric phthalides from the rhizomes of Ligusticum sinense Oliv

Yi-wen He et al.

Summary: Two new phthalide dimers and three known dimeric phthalides were isolated from Ligusticum sinense Oliv. The structures were determined using spectroscopic data and ECD spectra comparison, and their inhibitory activities against NO production in LPS-treated macrophages were evaluated. Compounds 1 and 3 showed potent NO prohibitive activity with IC50 values around 4.8 μM.
