Heart disease is the leading cause of death globally. Cardiomyopathy, a type of heart disease, is characterized by heart muscle damage that leads to structural and functional changes in the heart, resulting in heart failure and sudden cardiac death. The loss of cardiomyocytes is a key factor in the development of cardiomyopathy, and recent studies have highlighted the role of ferroptosis, a regulated form of cell death involving iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, in this disease.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Cardiomyopathy is a disease characterized by the heart muscle damage, resulting heart in a structurally and functionally change, as well as heart failure and sudden cardiac death. The key pathogenic factor of cardiomyopathy is the loss of cardiomyocytes, but the related molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered regulated form of cell death, characterized by iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation during cell death. Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis plays
