Vitamin K: A vital micronutrient with the cardioprotective potential against diabetes-associated complications

Kabelo Mokgalaboni et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the therapeutic effects of food-derived bioactive compounds, such as vitamin K, in protecting or managing metabolic diseases in patients with T2D. It discusses the potential benefits of vitamin K in attenuating CVD-risk factors, blood lipid profiles, blood pressure, as well as markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in patients with T2D. Additionally, it explores controversies related to the cardioprotective effects of vitamin K and highlights its therapeutic potential through a summary of preclinical evidence.

Physical Exercise Potentially Targets Epicardial Adipose Tissue to Reduce Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Patients with Metabolic Diseases: Oxidative Stress and Inflammation Emerge as Major Therapeutic Targets

Thembeka A. Nyawo et al.

Summary: Excessive epicardial adiposity is emerging as an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, and reducing epicardial fat thickness is crucial for attenuating CVD risk in the setting of metabolic disease. Physical exercise can reduce epicardial fat and decrease CVD risk in conditions of metabolic disease.

Evaluation of In Vitro Capsaicin Release and Antimicrobial Properties of Topical Pharmaceutical Formulation

Enkelejda Goci et al.

Summary: The study aimed to prepare a pharmaceutical Carbopol-based formulation containing capsaicin and evaluate its in vitro release and antimicrobial and antifungal properties. The results showed that approximately 50% of capsaicin was released within 52 hours from the formulation, and it significantly enhanced the antimicrobial effects of capsaicin against various bacteria and fungi strains.

Capsaicin 179-mg cutaneous patch in the treatment of post-surgical neuropathic pain: a scoping review of current evidence and place in therapy

Roberto Casale

Summary: This article reviews the use of a high-concentration capsaicin 179-mg cutaneous patch for post-surgical neuropathic pain (PSNP). Clinical studies have shown the efficacy of the capsaicin patch in PSNP as monotherapy or combined with oral treatments, and it is better tolerated and accepted compared to systemic treatments. Adherence to correct administration recommendations is important for maximizing treatment effectiveness.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by impaired insulin secretion and action. GLP-1 mimetics, with their longer half-life, have shown to be effective in enhancing insulin secretion, alleviating post-diagnosis complications, and inducing weight loss in patients. Understanding the mechanisms of action and potential of GLP-1-based therapies can provide better insight into treating T2D effectively.

Kabelo Mokgalaboni et al.

Summary: Studies indicate that curcumin supplementation can significantly reduce blood glucose and triglycerides levels in patients with type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, as well as improve liver function markers. Additionally, curcumin has been shown to decrease predominant markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in these patients.
