Design, Synthesis, and Antifungal Evaluation of Cryptolepine Derivatives against Phytopathogenic Fungi

Yong-Jia Chen et al.

Summary: Cryptolepine and its derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their antifungal activities against four agriculturally important fungi. Compound a3 showed significantly prominent inhibitory activity against B. cinerea, while compound f1 exhibited better activity against R. solani and F. graminearum. In addition, in vivo curative experiment found that the therapeutic action of a3 was comparable to that of the positive control azoxystrobin.

The harsh microenvironment in early breast cancer selects for a Warburg phenotype

Mehdi Damaghi et al.

Summary: The harsh microenvironment of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) selects for a Warburg Effect (WE) phenotype through constitutive transcriptional reprogramming, with KLF4 potentially being an inducer of the WE phenotype. In vitro results were used to simulate DCIS phenotypic evolution using a mathematical model.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Non-classical cardenolides from Calotropis gigantea exhibit anticancer effect as HIF-1 inhibitors

Zhiyuan Zheng et al.

Summary: A study found that new non-classical cardenolides isolated from Calotropis gigantea not only showed inhibitory effect on HIF-1 transcriptional activity, but also exhibited selective cytotoxicity against cancer cells, suggesting their potential as candidate compounds for anticancer drugs.
