Astrocyte-derived CCL7 promotes microglia-mediated inflammation following traumatic brain injury

Jianqin Xue et al.

Summary: This study revealed the important role of astrocyte-derived CCL7 in promoting microglia-mediated inflammation after TBI, suggesting CCL7 could serve as a potential therapeutic strategy for attenuating TBI by inhibiting microglial activation.

The inhibitory effects of Aster yomena extract on microglial activation-mediated inflammatory response and pain by modulation of the NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways

Joon Park et al.

Summary: This study found that AYE inhibits microglial activation-mediated inflammatory pain by suppressing the NF-kappa B and MAPK signaling pathways. Oral administration of AYE alleviated pain hypersensitivity and microglial activation in the spinal cord. The major active components in AYE, chlorogenic acid and t-Ferulic acid, showed inhibitory effects on LPS-induced microglial activation.

Inhibition of CCL7 derived from Mo-MDSCs prevents metastatic progression from latency in colorectal cancer

Xiaoli Ren et al.

Summary: The study revealed that monocytic MDSCs secreted CCL7 in colorectal cancer liver metastasis, activating dormant micro-metastatic cells through the JAK/STAT3 pathway. Inhibiting CCL7 and MDSCs could maintain the dormant status of CRC metastatic cells, reducing metastasis or recurrence. Elevated levels of CCL7 were associated with short-term recurrence and distant metastasis in CRC patients, highlighting the potential therapeutic strategy of targeting CCL7 for preventing metastasis recurrence.

Microglia Specific Drug Targeting Using Natural Products for the Regulation of Redox Imbalance in Neurodegeneration

Shashank Kumar Maurya et al.

Summary: Microglia, an innate immune cell of the brain, plays a crucial role in regulating neurogenesis, immunological surveillance, redox imbalance, and cognitive functions. Under normal conditions, it maintains homeostasis by producing cytokines, but in neurodegenerative diseases, it can switch to an activated phenotype releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines, leading to neuroinflammation and redox imbalance. Targeting microglia pharmacologically may offer a promising strategy to manage neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Neuropathic Pain: Biomolecular Intervention and Imaging via Targeting Microglia Activation

Aijun Ji et al.

Summary: NP is a common accompanying symptom of many diseases, seriously affecting the quality of life of patients. Neuron-microglia interaction has been found by experts to play a vital role in the occurrence and development of NP. Advanced studies and interventions using pharmaceuticals and traditional herbal medicines extracts have been attempted to address NP due to its unsatisfactory clinical treatments.
