Sinapic acid ameliorates cardiac dysfunction and cardiomyopathy by modulating NF-κB and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways in streptozocin induced diabetic rats

Mohammad Raish et al.

Summary: Sinapic acid has been found to improve cardiac damage in diabetic rats by alleviating hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia-induced cardiac dysfunction, reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, and enhancing antioxidant defenses. Therefore, it may possess therapeutic potential for the prevention of diabetic cardiac dysfunction and cardiomyopathy via the NRF2/HO-1 and NF-kappa B pathways.

Anti-Inflammatory and Antinociceptive Effects of Boesenbergia rotunda Polyphenol Extract in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Rats

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of Boesenbergia rotunda extract (EBR) in attenuating diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in rats. The results showed that EBR could effectively reduce blood glucose concentration, alleviate body weight loss, and improve thermal hyperalgesia, cold and mechanical allodynia, as well as motor coordination in diabetic rats. EBR also exhibited anti-nociceptive effects and decreased serum levels of proinflammatory cytokines. These findings suggest that EBR may be a promising treatment for diabetic painful neuropathy.

Role of Oxidative Stress in Diabetic Cardiomyopathy

Bart De Geest et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a redox disease characterized by oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. The cardiac manifestations of the disease, known as diabetic cardiomyopathy, are primarily caused by mitochondrial overproduction of reactive oxygen species. These species are produced due to intracellular hyperglycemia, increased fatty oxidation, and lipotoxicity in cardiomyocytes. The resulting oxidative distress affects various pathways, leading to cell dysfunction and injury. Animal studies have shown that increasing the expression of antioxidant enzymes can attenuate myocardial pathology and improve cardiac function.
