Exosomal miR-132-3p from mesenchymal stromal cells improves synaptic dysfunction and cognitive decline in vascular dementia

Xiaotang Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of MSC exosomes carrying miR-132-3p in rescuing cognition and memory deficit in vascular dementia mice. The results suggest that MSC exosomes and miR-132-3p promote the recovery of cognitive function by improving neuronal and synaptic dysfunction through activation of the Ras/Akt/GSK-3β pathway induced by downregulation of RASA1. These findings provide potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of vascular dementia.

Role of Ten eleven translocation-2 (Tet2) in modulating neuronal morphology and cognition in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

Liping Li et al.

Summary: Abnormal expression of Tet2 plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease by modulating neuronal morphology and response to A beta toxicity. Over-expression of Tet2 can protect neurons from damage and alleviate amyloid burden, indicating Tet2 as a potential therapeutic target for repairing neuronal damage and cognitive impairment in AD. Knocking down Tet2 may accelerate the accumulation of A beta plaques and lead to cognitive dysfunction in AD mice.

Aerobic exercise improves VCI through circRIMS2/miR-186/BDNF-mediated neuronal apoptosis

Yali Niu et al.

Summary: Research indicated that VCI patients had reduced levels of circRIMS2 and BDNF in their serum, along with increased miR-186 expression. Animal experiments demonstrated that aerobic exercise could alleviate VCI development through the circRIMS2/miR-186/BDNF axis.

Deletion of B-cell translocation gene 2 (BTG2) alters the responses of glial cells in white matter to chronic cerebral hypoperfusion

Kaoru Suzuki et al.

Summary: The study investigated the role of BTG2 gene in white matter glial response to chronic cerebral hypoperfusion using a mouse model. The results showed that BTG2 negatively regulates glial cell proliferation in response to cerebral hypoperfusion, leading to behavioral changes and differences in white matter lesions.

Treatment with edaravone improves the structure and functional changes in the hippocampus after chronic cerebral hypoperfusion in rat

Gholam Hossein Meftahi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of edaravone administration on cellular and electrophysiological properties in a rat model of vascular dementia induced by bilateral carotid artery occlusion. The results showed that vascular dementia led to increased MDA levels, neuronal loss, reduced hippocampal volume, and impaired synaptic plasticity and memory function. However, treatment with edaravone decreased MDA levels, prevented neuronal loss and hippocampal volume reduction, improved synaptic plasticity and memory function.

Differential lncRNA expression profiling of cognitive function in middle and old aged monozygotic twins using generalized association analysis

Afsaneh Mohammadnejad et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) expression and lncRNA-mRNA interaction networks in cognitive function, analyzing lncRNA expression in whole blood samples of 400 monozygotic twins. The study identified 20 lncRNA probes associated with cognitive function and revealed diverse patterns of association between lncRNAs and cognitive performance. Significant pathways related to cognition were detected through the novel lncRNA regulatory network.

The role of LncRNA MALAT-1 and MiRNA-9 in Psoriasis

Azza M. Elamir et al.

Summary: The study detected a significant increase in the expression of MALAT-1 in lesional and non-lesional skin as well as serum of psoriatic patients, along with a significant increase in serum MiRNA-9 levels in patients. However, the tissue level of MiRNA-9 was significantly lower in patients. This study highlights the dysregulation of LncRNA MALAT-1 and miRNA-9 in psoriasis, suggesting their potential roles as biomarkers for this skin disorder.

LncRNA MALAT1 aggravates oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation-induced neuronal endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis via the miR-195a-5p/HMGA1 axis

Ying Jia et al.

Summary: This study found that MALAT1 expression was significantly increased in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, and it promoted neuronal injury through the miR-195a-5p/HMGA1 pathway. This discovery reveals the mechanism of MALAT1 involvement in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.
