Bisphosphonates: Synthesis, structures, properties, medical and industrial applications

Konstantin Popov et al.

Summary: This review provides a comprehensive overview of both medical and industrial applications of bisphosphonates (BPs), with a focus on their structure-property relationships. It covers the synthesis, crystallographic data, thermodynamics of complex formation in aqueous phase, and solubility data of BPs. The review discusses the major industrial applications of BPs, such as scale and corrosion inhibition and cation separations, as well as their numerous applications in medicine, including drugs for bone diseases, cancer treatment, drug carriers, and contrasting agents. It also highlights the importance of nanodrugs and nanomaterials based on BPs in both medical and industrial fields.

STRATEGIES AND CHALLENGES IN METHOD DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION FOR THE ABSOLUTE QUANTIFICATION OF ENDOGENOUS BIOMARKER METABOLITES USING LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY-TANDEM MASS SPECTROMETRY

Mona M. Khamis et al.

Summary: Metabolomics is an important field with challenges in biomarker qualification for clinical applications, due to issues such as inappropriate study designs and insufficient data to support clinical utility. To address these challenges, modifications of existing guidelines and alternative approaches are being developed to facilitate method validation. The main challenges in method development and validation for endogenous metabolites include matrix effects evaluation, alternative analyte-free matrices, and the choice of internal standards.

Synthesis of the 6-Substituted Imidazo[1,2-a]Pyridine-3-yl-2-Phosphonopropionic Acids as Potential Inhibitors of Rab Geranylgeranyl Transferase

Damian Kusy et al.

Summary: The research showed that the nature of the substituent in the C6 position of the imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine ring significantly affects the activity of phosphonopropionates against Rab geranylgeranyl transferase. The most active inhibitors disrupted Rab11A prenylation in HeLa cells, but esterification of carboxylic acid in the phosphonopropionate moiety led to a loss of activity.
