Simultaneous Measurements of O3 and HCOOH Vertical Fluxes Indicate Rapid In-Canopy Terpene Chemistry Enhances O3 Removal Over Mixed Temperate Forests

Michael P. Vermeuel et al.

Summary: The study reveals a significant contribution of nonstomatal pathways in canopy to the dry deposition of O-3, which is not correctly captured in current models. Stomatal uptake and estimated absorption only explain a small portion of O-3 loss.

Significance of the organic aerosol driven climate feedback in the boreal area

Taina Yli-Juuti et al.

Summary: Aerosol particles can cool the climate by scattering solar radiation and acting as cloud condensation nuclei. Research suggests that warmer temperatures lead to increased emissions of biogenic secondary organic aerosol and cloud condensation nuclei concentrations, creating a negative climate feedback mechanism. Direct observations using aerosol chemical composition measurements and remote sensing observations revealed a clear increase in organic aerosol loadings and cloud condensation nuclei concentration with temperature in a boreal forest environment.

Atmospheric organic vapors in two European pine forests measured by a Vocus PTR-TOF: insights into monoterpene and sesquiterpene oxidation processes

Haiyan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, atmospheric organic vapors were measured using a Vocus PTR-TOF in the Landes forest in southern France and the boreal forest in southern Finland, identifying various emission sources and oxidation processes with a high similarity between the two sites. Monoterpenes dominate the biogenic VOCs in both forests, with different oxidation products showing varying degrees of oxidation. Strong relative humidity dependence was found for sesquiterpene lightly oxidized compounds, contrasting with the behavior of monoterpene oxidation products.
