Accretion variability from minute to decade timescales in the classical T Tauri star CR Cha

G. Zsidi et al.

Summary: This study examines the accretion process of the low-mass young stellar object CR Cha on various timescales. The results show a stable rotational period of about 2.3 days over decades. The color variations in the system are likely caused by changing accretion rates or variations in the inner disk structure. The variability of the H alpha line profile suggests the presence of different physical mechanisms such as accretion or wind at different timescales.

EXORCISM: A Spectroscopic Survey of Young Eruptive Variables (EXor and Candidates)

T. Giannini et al.

Summary: This study presents an optical/near-IR survey of 11 variable young stars aimed at understanding and monitoring their accretion properties. The accretion luminosity, mass accretion rate, visual extinction, temperature and density of the line formation region, and the signature of outflowing matter are derived from the spectral analysis. The study finds that the variability of mass accretion is greater than that of mass loss, and a correlation is suggested between the density of the line formation region and the accretion activity.

Stellar multiplicity affects the correlation between protoplanetary disc masses and accretion rates: binaries explain high accretors in Upper Sco

Francesco Zagaria et al.

Summary: In recent years, a correlation between mass accretion rates onto new-born stars and their protoplanetary disc masses has been observed. However, highly accreting sources with low disc masses in more evolved regions remain puzzling. This paper hypothesizes that the presence of a stellar companion truncating the disc can explain these outliers. The hypothesis is supported by statistical analysis, which shows that binary systems have higher accretion rates compared to single-star systems.

PENELLOPE III. The peculiar accretion variability of XX Cha and its impact on the observed spread of accretion rates

R. A. B. Claes et al.

Summary: This study reports on the observed large variation in the accretion rate for XX Cha and discusses its impact on population studies of classical T Tauri stars. The findings suggest that extreme accretion variability may be common among classical T Tauri stars and the previous studies based on spectral lines may have underestimated the variability.

Monitoring accretion rate variability in the Orion Nebula Cluster with the Wendelstein Wide Field Imager

S. Flaischlen et al.

Summary: This study monitored accreting stars in the Orion Nebula Cluster using the Wendelstein Wide Field Imager and found that accretion rate variability has negligible effects on the correlation analysis between X-ray luminosity and mass accretion rates.

Gaia Early Data Release 3 Summary of the contents and survey properties

A. G. A. Brown et al.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 is the early installment of the third data release from the Gaia project, providing astrometry and photometry for 1.8 billion sources brighter than magnitude 21, along with radial velocities from Gaia DR2. The data processing precision and homogeneity have significantly improved compared to the previous version, with additional information on celestial bodies and an updated celestial reference frame.

Estimating Distances from Parallaxes. V. Geometric and Photogeometric Distances to 1.47 Billion Stars in Gaia Early Data Release 3

C. A. L. Bailer-Jones et al.

Summary: Stellar distances are essential in astrophysics, and the publication of 1.47 billion stellar parallaxes from Gaia significantly contributes to this field. Despite challenges with faint or distant stars, a probabilistic approach using a three-dimensional model of the Galaxy has been developed to estimate geometric and photogeometric distances. Photogeometric estimates generally show higher accuracy and precision compared to geometric distances, especially for stars with poor parallaxes, and are provided in a publicly available catalog.
