Predictions for Gravity-mode Periods and Surface Abundances in Intermediate-mass Dwarfs from Shear Mixing and Radiative Levitation

Joey S. G. Mombarg et al.

Summary: Recent study presented new MESA stellar models with improvements in computing efficiency and shear mixing in radiative envelopes, which allows for mode trapping in chemical mixing profiles. Predictions also show correlations between N/C and C/O abundance ratios with stellar age, observable with precision around 0.1 dex with accurate age estimates.

Seismic modelling of a very young SPB star - KIC 8264293

Wojciech Szewczuk et al.

Summary: In this study, we conducted a thorough seismic analysis of MC 8264293, a fast-rotating B-type pulsator observed by the Kepler satellite. By fitting the period spacing and considering the position of the star in the HR diagram, we constrained the internal structure and physical parameters of the star. We found that the star is very young and has not yet left the zero-age main sequence. The star's photometric variability is mainly due to its pulsations in high-order g modes, as well as the fluctuation in its circumstellar disc.

Detection of period-spacing patterns due to the gravity modes of rotating dwarfs in the TESS southern continuous viewing zone

S. Garcia et al.

Summary: The theory of stellar evolution is often constrained when comparing with asteroseismic probes of interior physical properties. This research aims to build a catalog of intermediate-mass stars in the TESS southern CVZ to reveal period-spacing patterns caused by gravity modes. The study uses gravity-mode patterns to investigate the near-core rotation and mixing of chemical elements in main-sequence stars.

Detecting deep axisymmetric toroidal magnetic fields in stars The traditional approximation of rotation for differentially rotating deep spherical shells with a general azimuthal magnetic field

H. Dhouib et al.

Summary: The study finds that strong toroidal magnetic fields have an impact on the period spacings of gravity and Rossby modes. An equatorial azimuthal magnetic field with an amplitude of about 10^5 G can be detected in high radial-order modes in gamma Dor and SPB stars. However, more complex hemispheric configurations are more difficult to observe.

The traditional approximation of rotation for rapidly rotating stars and planets I. The impact of strong deformation

H. Dhouib et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new generalization of the traditional approximation of rotation (TAR) by considering the centrifugal effects, and determines its validity domain through analysis of 2D stellar models. It is found that the TAR remains applicable for deformed stars rotating at a rate lower than 20% of the critical rotation rate.

Probing the interior physics of stars through asteroseismology

C. Aerts

Summary: High-precision brightness measurements collected over years using telescopes in space have enabled astronomers to study the physics of stellar interiors through nonradial oscillations. The field of asteroseismology has provided new insights into how stars rotate and evolve chemically. Data-driven space asteroseismology has significantly improved computer models of star evolution, which are crucial for various research fields in space science and have potential applications in the search for extraterrestrial life and studies of supernova progenitors.

The effect of the centrifugal acceleration on period spacings of gravito-inertial modes in intermediate-mass stars

J. Henneco et al.

Summary: This study examines the effect of centrifugal acceleration on g modes and evaluates its detectability in space-based photometric observations. By implementing a new theoretical framework, the centrifugal deformation of pre-computed 1D spherical stellar structure models was calculated, and the corresponding g-mode frequencies were computed assuming uniform rotation. The results show that the centrifugal acceleration modifies the effect of the Coriolis acceleration on g modes and causes changes in pulsation periods and period spacings, which are detectable in modern space photometry and can improve asteroseismic modeling of centrifugally deformed stars.

Variability of newly identified B-type stars observed by Kepler

Wojciech Szewczuk et al.

Summary: Recent re-determination of stellar atmospheric parameters during the Kepler mission has led to the discovery of more Kepler B-type stars. These stars exhibit pulsational variability, with high-order g modes being dominant and some low-order p/g modes also present. Patterns in the oscillation spectra associated with period spacings resulting from the asymptotic nature of the detected pulsational modes have been identified. The observed oscillation characteristics have been tentatively compared to predictions from linear non-adiabatic computations of stellar pulsations, with the effects of rotation on frequency values and mode instability considered for high-order g modes using the traditional approximation.

Rotation of the convective core in γ Dor stars measured by dips in period spacings of g modes coupled with inertial modes

Hideyuki Saio et al.

Summary: The relation of period spacing versus period of dipole prograde g modes can be used to measure rotation rates in rapidly rotating gamma Dor and slowly pulsating B stars. By fitting the observed dips in period, the differential rotation of the convective core from the surrounding g-mode cavity can be inferred.

Probing the temperature gradient in the core boundary layer of stars with gravito-inertial modes: The case of KIC 7760680

M. Michielsen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal and chemical structure in the near-core region of stars with a convective core using gravito-inertial modes, focusing on the B-type star KIC 7760680 rotating at a quarter of its critical rotation velocity. The results suggest that period spacings of modes with consecutive radial order offer a better diagnostic for asteroseismic modelling of stars with high-order gravito-inertial modes, with simpler models without convective boundary mixing being statistically preferred for KIC 7760680.

Internal mixing of rotating stars inferred from dipole gravity modes

May G. Pedersen et al.

Summary: Observations of 26 rotating stars with masses between 3 and 10 solar masses reveal a wide range of internal mixing levels, with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles showing the best asteroseismic performance. This study provides observational guidance for three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of transport processes in the deep interiors of stars, based on gravity modes probing the stars' deep interiors near the convective core. The internal mixing levels in the analyzed stars are unexpectedly varied and are best reproduced with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles.

The traditional approximation of rotation for rapidly rotating stars and planets I. The impact of strong deformation
