Influence of Dynamic and Static Obstructive Renal Artery on Early Prognosis in Stanford Type A Aortic Dissection

Maozhou Wang et al.

Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) has a high mortality rate after acute Stanford type A aortic dissection (STAAD) surgery. The study found that static obstructive renal artery (SORA) led to higher 30-day in-hospital mortality and more postoperative dialysis. Open surgery reduced renal ischemia injury caused by dynamic obstructive renal artery (DORA), but it could not reduce renal ischemia injury caused by SORA.

Chronic progression of cardiac surgery associated acute kidney injury: Intermediary role of acute kidney disease

Jin Sun Cho et al.

Summary: The study revealed that postoperative AKI in valvular heart surgery patients increases the risk of AKD and CKD development, with persistent AKI further escalating this risk. Additionally, heart failure and high right ventricular pressure postoperatively were identified as independent risk factors for CKD.

Acute Kidney Injury After Acute Repair of Type A Aortic Dissection

Summary: This study examined the occurrence of AKI in patients undergoing surgery for ATAAD in 8 Nordic centers from 2005 to 2014. AKI was found to be a common complication after ATAAD surgery and independently predicted adverse long-term outcomes, emphasizing the importance of close clinical follow-up for these patients.

Harmonizing acute and chronic kidney disease definition and classification: report of a Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) Consensus Conference

Norbert H. Lameire et al.

Summary: Kidney disease is a significant public health issue, with acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease well defined and classified. The term acute kidney diseases and disorders (AKD) has been introduced to address abnormalities that do not fit the traditional definitions, with a consensus workshop organized by KDIGO to refine definitions, classify AKD, propose management strategies, and prioritize research efforts.

The prognosis and risk factors for acute kidney injury in high-risk patients after surgery for type A aortic dissection in the ICU

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study identified preoperative lactic acid level and cardiopulmonary bypass duration as independent risk factors for postoperative acute kidney injury in patients undergoing surgery for acute type A aortic dissection. The 28-day mortality rates were 46.67% for postoperative TAAD patients, 53.84% for those with AKI, and 67.5% for those requiring CRRT. The duration of cardiopulmonary bypass and norepinephrine dose upon diagnosis of AKI may influence short-term prognosis in these patients.
