Does infection predispose to thrombosis during long-term ventricular assist device support?

Noelia Bouzas-Cruz et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 220 patients who underwent ventricular assist device implantation and found that infections and thrombotic events were the most common complications in these patients, and were related to the duration of support. Infections did not significantly increase the risk of thrombus formation.

Factors influencing the functional status of aortic valve in ovine models supported by continuous-flow left ventricular assist device

Xin-Yi Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the factors influencing the functional status of the aortic valve after CF-LVAD implantation using an acute animal experiment in an ovine model. The results show that pump speed, LVSP, ABF, MAP, and pulse pressure are significant predictors of the risk of AVC. Predictive models built from these predictors demonstrate good performance in differentiating aortic valve opening and closure after CF-LVAD implantation.

Preventing driveline infection during left ventricular assist device support by the HeartMate 3: A survey-based study

Omar Saeed et al.

Summary: This study surveyed LVAD centers in the United States to assess the prevalence and preventive practices of DLI during HM3 support. The results showed variations in the reported prevalence and preventive measures of DLI across centers, highlighting the need for further research and evaluation of standardized preventive strategies.

Summary: The study found that cardiopulmonary exercise test-guided HIIT program is feasible and effective in improving submaximal aerobic capacity in stable patients with chronic LVAD support. However, HIIT did not have an impact on maximal oxygen consumption and Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire score.

VE/VCO2 slope predicts RV dysfunction and mortality after left ventricular assist device: a fresh look at cardiopulmonary stress testing for prognostication

Summary: Preoperative VE/VCO2 slope can predict postoperative mortality and right ventricular dysfunction after LVAD surgery. Patients with a higher VE/VCO2 slope had higher mortality rates and more significant clinical and hemodynamic markers of RV dysfunction postoperatively.

Summary: This study found that even after LVAD implantation, pVO2 still holds prognostic value and is similar to HF patients not supported by mechanical circulatory support devices. Lower pVO2 values were strongly associated with poorer survival, regardless of the analysis method used.
