Deep learning via LSTM models for COVID-19 infection forecasting in India

Rohitash Chandra et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on health and medical infrastructure, economy, and agriculture. Traditional computational and mathematical models have proven unreliable in predicting the spread of infections due to the complexity involved. In this study, deep learning models, specifically recurrent neural networks, were used to forecast COVID-19 infections in selected Indian states. The predictions indicate a low likelihood of another wave of infections in the next two months, but vigilance is still necessary due to emerging variants of the virus.

Impact of vaccination by priority group on UK deaths, hospital admissions and intensive care admissions from COVID-19

T. M. Cook et al.

Summary: National (and global) vaccination efforts play a key role in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on prioritizing vulnerable populations and healthcare workers to reduce mortality and hospital admissions. Reaching a milestone of 50% of the adult population vaccinated can lead to significant reductions in death rate by 95% and hospital admission by 80%, prompting a reassessment of vaccine prioritization. Substantial decreases in hospital and ICU admissions may not be observed until late March to April 2021 according to the model.

Fractional model for the spread of COVID-19 subject to government intervention and public perception

K. M. Furati et al.

Summary: The novel coronavirus pandemic has impacted people worldwide, leading to collective efforts in monitoring, predicting, and controlling the spread of the disease. Mathematical models have been developed to accurately capture data and simulate future scenarios, with fractional-order models recognized as a powerful tool.

Optimizing time-limited non-pharmaceutical interventions for COVID-19 outbreak control

Alex L. K. Morgan et al.

Summary: The study explores the optimization of NPIs using an SIR mathematical model to minimize the potential impacts of COVID-19 outbreak. It identifies optimal parameter spaces for each intervention scenario but notes that these optimal interventions are fragile and sensitive to uncertainty and errors. Therefore, using robust but suboptimal interventions may be a more feasible alternative in mitigating the peak prevalence or attack rate of the outbreak.
