Demonstration of ultrahigh thermoelectric efficiency of ∼7.3% in Mg3Sb2/MgAgSb module for low-temperature energy harvesting

Zihang Liu et al.

Summary: Researchers have made significant advancements in thermoelectric materials by adding minor amounts of Cu to the Mg3Sb1.5Bi0.5 system, leading to improved thermoelectric performance and reduced thermal conductivity. Through grain-boundary engineering, the detrimental effects of thermally activated electrical conductivity were successfully eliminated. The fabricated thermoelectric module, when combined with a p-type alpha-MgAgSb-based material, showed promising potential for low-temperature thermoelectric harvesting.

Fabrication of Mg3Sb2 thin films via radio-frequency magnetron sputtering and analysis of the corresponding electrical properties

Jun-ichi Tani et al.

Summary: Thermoelectric devices based on Seebeck and Peltier effects have attracted attention as a potential green technology. Mg3Sb2 is a promising high-performance thermoelectric material. In this study, Mg3Sb2 polycrystalline thin films were successfully prepared via radio frequency magnetron sputtering, revealing two crystalline phases of Mg3Sb2 that impact its semiconductor properties and thermoelectric performance, with electrical resistivity and Seebeck coefficient strongly dependent on substrate temperature.
