Radioactive iodine capture by metal organic frameworks in liquid and vapour phases: An experimental, kinetic and mechanistic study

Summary: In order to protect the environment, it is crucial to efficiently capture the radioiodine produced or released as nuclear fission products. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) show promise in addressing this issue. The synthesis and characterization of four different MOFs were conducted in this study, with KQ-1 demonstrating the highest iodine adsorption capacity. The presence of aromatic rings in the MOFs structure was found to play a significant role in iodine sorption.
