Suitability of Nansha Mangrove Wetland for High Nitrogen Shrimp Pond Wastewater Treatment

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that mangrove wetlands can effectively reduce nitrogen and phosphorus in shrimp pond wastewater, but significantly increase N2O and CH4 emissions. Therefore, caution should be exercised when using mangrove wetlands for shrimp pond wastewater treatment.

Spartina alterniflora invasions reduce soil fungal diversity and simplify co-occurrence networks in a salt marsh ecosystem

Guangliang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated soil fungal communities in a salt marsh ecosystem with native and exotic plant species. It found that plant invasion significantly decreased fungal richness and diversity, altered community composition, and led to homogenization of the fungal community. The invaded sites had a higher proportion of saprophytic fungi, while growth of pathogenic fungi was inhibited. Soil pH and salinity were identified as important factors in shaping the fungal community structures in the context of plant invasion.

Changes of the Macrobenthos Community with Non-native Mangrove Rehabilitation (Kandelia obovata) and Salt Marsh Invasion (Spartina alterniflora) in Ximen Island, Zhejiang, China

Qiuxuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of non-native mangrove rehabilitation and salt marsh invasion on macrobenthos communities in Ximen Island, China. Results showed that Spartina alterniflora increased abundance and diversity of macrobenthos compared to mudflats, while macrobenthos abundance in mangrove forests was positively correlated with stand age but diversity indices showed negative correlations.
