Glomalin related protein and C16:1ω5 PLFA associated with AM fungi as potential signatures for assessing the soil C sequestration under contrasting soil management practices

Richa Agnihotri et al.

Summary: The study found that zero tillage and raised beds promote AMF activity, improving SOC sequestration potential and soil quality. GRP and PLFA C16:1m5 can be used as potential indicators for assessing soil quality.

Dynamics of Soil Organic Carbon and Labile Carbon Fractions in Soil Aggregates Affected by Different Tillage Managements

Xiaolin Shen et al.

Summary: The study found that no tillage or deep ploughing, as opposed to rotary tillage, can increase soil aggregate stability and organic carbon content, leading to better carbon storage effects. Therefore, it is recommended to use no tillage or deep ploughing management methods in wheat-maize rotation systems for sustainable agriculture development.

A critical review of 25 years of glomalin research: a better mechanical understanding and robust quantification techniques are required

Thomas B. Irving et al.

Summary: Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play a vital role in plant and soil health, with the discovery of 'glomalin' being associated with numerous benefits despite disagreements on its nature. Studies suggest 'glomalin' may be a heat shock protein produced by AMF or a mixture of soil organic materials not unique to AMF. Further research and experiments are needed to understand the mechanisms behind the benefits associated with 'glomalin'.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the application of compost and digestates can significantly improve soil aggregation, enhance soil fertility and stability, with changes associated with soil organic carbon lability, occurrence of aromatic functional groups, and abundance of fungi and total glomalins.
