Isogeometric analysis of hydrodynamics of vesicles using a monolithic phase-field approach

Navid Valizadeh et al.

Summary: This paper presents an isogeometric analysis for studying the dynamical behavior of inextensible vesicles under an external fluid flow with inertial forces. By leveraging the high continuity of NURBS functions, the number of equations to be solved is reduced compared to previous methods. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method successfully simulates the dynamic characteristics of inextensible vesicles in different flow fields.

An isogeometric phase-field based shape and topology optimization for flexoelectric structures

Jorge Lopez et al.

Summary: This paper develops an isogeometric phase-field based shape and topology optimization method considering topological changes in a CAD-based framework. The diffuse interface is used to describe the boundaries of the geometry between material and void phases. The evolution of the phase-field is determined by solving the time-dependent Allen-Cahn equation. The method is demonstrated by optimizing flexoelectric structures and comparing the results with piezoelectric materials. The robustness of the method is shown through different geometries, boundary conditions, and material configurations.

Formation of core-shell structure in immiscible CoCrCuFe1.5Ni0.5 high-entropy alloy

Kaixi Lin et al.

Summary: The microstructure evolution and properties of CoCrCuFe1.5Ni0.5 high-entropy alloy solidified at different undercoolings have been studied using cyclic superheating technique. The results reveal that the alloy exhibits typical liquid phase separation behavior and can form a core-shell structure at small undercooling. When the undercooling is larger, a significant variation distribution of Cu-rich phase occurs, and the hardness of the Cu-lean core phase increases due to grain refinement. These findings provide a method to control the morphological structures and mechanical properties of the immiscible CoCr-CuFe1.5Ni0.5 HEA.

A grand-potential based phase-field approach for simulating growth of intermetallic phases in multicomponent alloy systems

Sourav Chatterjee et al.

Summary: Intermetallic phase-based alloys, particularly transition-metal aluminides, are potential materials for high-temperature applications involving interdiffusion between two dissimilar materials. A novel method incorporating diffusion potential dependent-properties of bulk multicomponent phases into a grand-potential based multi-phase-field model is proposed, showing good agreement with experimental results and outperforming existing simulation software like DICTRA in some cases. The proposed method allows for computationally affordable simulations at experimentally comparable length and time scales.

Isogeometric analysis for a phase-field constrained optimization problem of morphological evolution of vesicles in electrical fields

Mohammed Ashour et al.

Summary: In this paper, the constrained Willmore problem coupled with an electrical field is solved using IsoGeometric Analysis (IGA) to simulate the morphological evolution of vesicles subjected to static electrical fields. The two-phase problem is modeled using the phase-field method, and a modified Augmented-Lagrangian approach is used to satisfy the constraints while maintaining a relatively large time step. The results demonstrate the superiority of isogeometric analysis in solving high-order differential operators and accurately simulating the morphological evolution of vesicles.

Accelerated Design of Eutectic High Entropy Alloys by ICME Approach

Naishalkumar Shah et al.

Summary: A eutectic high entropy alloy with seven components was designed using the ICME framework, involving CALPHAD prediction, phase-field method simulation, and experimental validation. The alloy exhibited a eutectic structure with FCC and laves phase within a specific composition range, with correlated simulation and experimental results, suitable for various manufacturing processes.

A sublattice phase-field model for direct CALPHAD database coupling

D. Schwen et al.

Summary: The phase-field method is widely used for simulating microstructural evolution in materials, with the assessment and compilation of thermodynamic/kinetic data being dominated by the CALPHAD approach. This paper aims to directly link CALPHAD data to the phase-field method through a model based on the KKS approach, demonstrated on the U-Zr and Mo-Ni-Re systems.
