Influence of annealing process on structural, optical and electronic properties of nano-structured ZnO films synthesized by hydrothermal technique: Supported by DFT study

Mahmood H. Majeed et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of annealing temperature on the physical properties of ZnO nanorods through experimental and theoretical analysis. The results show that annealing temperature affects the crystallite size and band gap of ZnO nanorods, and the experimental and theoretical findings are consistent with each other.

Stable hydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic ZnO nanorod decorated nanofibrous membrane and its application in wastewater treatment

Fayez U. Ahmed et al.

Summary: The research proposes a novel approach for fabricating a nanofibrous PVDF membrane decorated with ZnO nanorods, which exhibits excellent properties for separating oil-water mixtures and emulsions. The membrane demonstrates high separation efficiency and pure water flux, and shows superhydrophilicity-underwater superoleophobicity wetting behavior. It also possesses antifouling and self-cleaning characteristics, and is capable of degrading organic pollutants in oily wastewater. The multifunctional properties make it a promising contender for potential use in wastewater treatment.

Enhanced performance of UV photodetector based on ZnO nanorod arrays via TiO2 as electrons trap layer

Zihan Yin et al.

Summary: In this study, a TiO2/ZnO nanorod arrays heterojunction structure was prepared and used in the construction of an ultraviolet photodetector. Compared to a photodetector based on ZnO nanorod arrays, the obtained heterojunction photodetector showed a higher on/off ratio and shorter rise/decay time. The enhanced response speed was attributed to the electron traps in the TiO2 layer.

Effect of ZnO seed layer annealing temperature on the growth of ZnO nanorods and its catalytic application

Altaf Yahya Al-She'irey et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of annealing temperature of ZnO seed layer on the growth of ZnO nanorods. The results show that the size and morphology of ZnO nanorods change with increasing annealing temperature, accompanied by a decrease in green emission and transmittance.

Characterization and antibacterial activity of Ti doped ZnO nanorods prepared by hydrazine assisted wet chemical route

J. Samuel et al.

Summary: A simple hydrazine assisted wet chemical method was used to prepare pure and Ti doped ZnO nanorods in this study. Analysis techniques such as XRD, TEM, EDS, XPS, Raman, and PL were employed to investigate the structural and optical properties of the nanorods, revealing the substitution of Ti4+ ions for Zn2+ ions and changes in band gap and defect emissions.

Synthesis of high quality hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorods for photoelectrochemical cell electrode

Huey Jing Tan et al.

Summary: This study fabricated ZnO nanorods on ITO glass substrate through hydrothermal synthesis and investigated the impact of concentration and temperature on the morphology, crystallinity, and photoelectrochemical performance of the ZnO nanorods. The optimal ZnO nanorods exhibited high bandgap value and photocurrent density, with improved charge separation and transfer rate compared to ZnO nanoparticles. The research demonstrated superior photoelectrochemical performance of the ZnO nanorods produced.

Determining the structure-antibacterial properties relationship and bacterial inactivation kinetics in different morphological-controlled ZnO nanoarchitectures for wastewater applications

Jang Sen Chang et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the roles of ROS and Zn2+ ions in governing the antibacterial properties of different ZnO nanostructures. Results showed that 1D-ZnO nanorods had the highest photo-deactivation ability under UV light conditions due to their higher exposed polar surface. The study also found that surface oxygen vacancies were correlated to intracellular ROS concentration, impacting bactericidal effect depending on the ZnO nanostructures used.
