Hydrothermal Unit-Commitment Problem of a Large-Scale System with Representation of Forbidden Zones

Bruno Colonetti et al.

Summary: As renewable energy becomes more prevalent in electrical networks, accurately representing electrical components is crucial, especially in hydro-dominant systems where modeling the forbidden zones of hydro plants poses a challenge. Currently, large-scale hydrothermal unit-commitment problems often ignore these forbidden zones, leading to potential adjustments in the solution process due to generation falling within these zones. Practical adjustments based on operator experience may not always result in optimal corrections, highlighting the importance of explicitly considering hydro-generation forbidden zones in large-scale systems with numerous components.

Multi-objective optimization of a hydro-wind-photovoltaic power complementary plant with a vibration avoidance strategy

Hualin Xiong et al.

Summary: This study effectively addresses the issue of avoiding running hydropower units in vibration zones by adopting a vibration avoidance strategy. Multi-objective optimization is used to maximize power generation, minimize output power fluctuations, and minimize the deviation between power generation and planned output. The study analyzes power distribution strategies for hydropower units under 12 scenarios, ensuring stable operation in non-vibration zones for over 99.31% of the operation time.

Stability and sensitivity analysis of the bending-torsional coupled vibration with the arcuate whirl of hydro-turbine generator unit

Yousong Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the vibrational stability and the sensitivity of shafting vibration to parameters of the unbalanced rotor bending-torsional coupling vibration of a hydro-turbine generator unit with arcuate whirl. A novel mathematical model was proposed, and the vibrational stability and sensitivity analysis were conducted through phase trajectory, Poincare map, frequency spectrum, and parameter bifurcation diagrams. The results showed that considering arcuate whirl led to changes in the vibration characteristics of the system and the sensitivity of vibrations to various parameters.
