Highly efficient dual-cathode Electro-Fenton process without aeration at a wide pH range: Simultaneously enhancing Fe(II) regeneration and mineralization efficiency

Qizhan Zhang et al.

Summary: A highly efficient dual-cathode electro-Fenton (EF) process using easily available Fe(III) as catalysts was proposed for the treatment of organic wastewater. The utilization of a natural air diffusion electrode (NADE) for H2O2 production without aeration and a modified carbon felt (MCF) for Fe(II) regeneration significantly increased the efficiency of TOC removal, reaching 48%-72% within 60 min.

Cobalt anchored on porous N, P, S-doping core-shell with generating/activating dual reaction sites in heterogeneous electro-Fenton process

Huajing Zhou et al.

Summary: A novel controllable mesoporous core-shell microsphere (Co/Fe3O4@PZS) was synthesized and used as an ORR electrocatalyst in the heterogeneous electro-Fenton reaction, providing reactive sites for anchoring Co ions and forming heteroatom Lewis acidic active sites for activating and degrading ROS. The PZS shell improved the stability of the electrode and accelerated electron transfers, enhancing the ORR efficiency and reducing energy consumption for BPA degradation. This study offers a reliable and facile route for preparing mesoporous core-shell microspheres in electro-Fenton electrocatalysis.

Zero-valent iron and biochar composite with high specific surface area via K2FeO4 fabrication enhances sulfadiazine removal by persulfate activation

Dongmei Ma et al.

Summary: ZVI/BC with large SSA fabricated by co-pyrolysis of K2FeO4 and bamboo showed excellent performance in removing environmental contaminants, with stability and recyclability. Factors such as higher temperature, lower pH, and Cl- were beneficial while CO32- and HPO42- had inhibitory effects on pollutant removal efficiency. Both non-radical species (O-1(2)) and radical species contributed to contaminant degradation, with O-1(2) being the most important reactive oxygen species.
