Evaluation of Recurrence Risk After Curative Resection for Patients With Stage I to III Colorectal Cancer Using the Hazard Function Retrospective Analysis of a Single-institution Large Cohort

Yozo Kudose et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the transitions of recurrence hazard and peak recurrence time in patients with nonmetastatic CRC. The study found that the recurrence rates and hazard curves varied among different stages of CRC. It was suggested that short-interval surveillance might not be necessary for stage I patients for the first 3 years after surgery, whereas short-interval surveillance for the first 3 years should be considered for stage III patients.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Prognostic Factors for Early Recurrence in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma After Curative-Intent Resection

Woo Jin Choi et al.

Summary: This systematic review identifies prognostic factors for early recurrence and 24-month disease-free survival after curative-intent resection of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). Multiple tumors, microvascular invasion, macrovascular invasion, lymph node metastasis, and R1 resection were associated with increased risk for early recurrence or reduced 24-month disease-free survival. Receipt of adjuvant chemo/radiation therapy was associated with improved outcomes. Cirrhosis, sex, and HBV status were not associated with early recurrence or 24-month disease-free survival.

Tumor Burden Score Stratifies Prognosis of Patients With Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma After Hepatic Resection: A Retrospective, Multi-Institutional Study

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic significance of tumor burden score (TBS) and CA19-9 in patients with resectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). The study found that both TBS and CA19-9 levels were strong predictors of survival outcomes. The combination of TBS and CA19-9 showed a synergistic effect in prognostic evaluation.

Number and Station of Lymph Node Metastasis After Curative-intent Resection of Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma Impact Prognosis

Xu-Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study suggests that curative-intent resection plays a critical role in the survival of ICC patients. The number and station of lymph node metastasis significantly impact patient survival, and examining at least 6 lymph nodes has the greatest discriminatory power for staging.

Predicting Lymph Node Metastasis in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma

Diamantis I. Tsilimigras et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel model to predict lymph node metastasis in ICC patients, as well as predict their 5-year overall survival and disease-specific survival rates. The model performed well in both training and validation datasets, providing valuable information for clinical decision-making prior to resection of ICC.

Tumor Burden Dictates Prognosis Among Patients Undergoing Resection of Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma: A Tool to Guide Post-Resection Adjuvant Chemotherapy?

Diamantis Tsilimigras et al.

Summary: Overall tumor burden (TB) significantly impacts the prognosis of patients with resectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), with higher TB associated with worse survival outcomes. TB can serve as a tool to guide post-resection treatment strategies.

Hazard function analysis of metastatic recurrence after colorectal cancer surgery-A nationwide retrospective study

Kazuhiro Ishimaru et al.

Summary: By analyzing the time of occurrence of metastasis in colorectal cancer patients, this study revealed the risk of recurrence in different metastatic organs based on the primary tumor site. This finding will help in individualizing postoperative surveillance schedules.

The Clinical Management of Cholangiocarcinoma in the United States and Europe: A Comprehensive and Evidence-Based Comparison of Guidelines

Zhi Ven Fong et al.

Summary: Guidelines for clinical management of cholangiocarcinoma in the US and Europe show discordance in recommendations for biopsy, fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography scans, and preoperative biliary drainage. Although trials like BILCAP and ABC-02 have provided strong evidence for systemic therapy, the guidelines have not set them as standard care, and future iterations may focus on diagnostic biomarkers and novel therapies.

Conditional Recurrence-Free Survival after Oncologic Extended Resection for Gallbladder Cancer: An International Multicenter Analysis

Eduardo A. Vega et al.

Summary: For patients undergoing OER for gallbladder cancer, conditional recurrence-free survival (C-RFS) improves over time, with T3-T4 disease remaining a risk factor for recurrence at 24 months after surgery. After 36 months, the probability of recurrence is similar regardless of T category or disease stage.

Proposed modification of the eighth edition of the AJCC staging system for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

Xu-Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study proposed a modified TNM staging system for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, which demonstrated improved stratification of patients based on long-term survival compared to the 8th AJCC staging system. The new mTNM system showed a monotonic decrement in survival and provided better analysis of patient outcomes.
