A dual marker technique to estimate individual feed intake in young pigs

T. Tang et al.

Summary: Accurate estimation of individual feed intake in pigs is essential for understanding performance variations between individual animals. This study investigated dual marker methods to estimate individual feed intake by measuring the ratio of two indigestible markers in feces. The results showed that the dual marker technique could accurately predict feed intake in pigs under specific dosage and timing conditions, providing valuable insights for complex feeding systems.

The effects of birth weight and estimated breeding value for protein deposition on nitrogen efficiency in growing pigs

Carola M. C. Van der Peet-Schwering et al.

Summary: The study found that birth weight does not affect nitrogen efficiency in pigs in later life, while pigs with high EBV have higher nitrogen retention and efficiency in protein adequate diets, but this difference is not significant in protein restricted diets.

The potential of feeding patterns to assess generic welfare in growing-finishing pigs

Summary: Studying the feeding patterns of growing-finishing pigs is a promising way to monitor pig welfare, with current understanding mainly focusing on physiological and behavioral welfare issues, while emotional welfare (including both positive and negative aspects) has been overlooked.
