Association of age, hormonal, and lifestyle factors with the Leydig cell biomarker INSL3 in aging men from the European Male Aging Study cohort

Ravinder Anand-Ivell et al.

Summary: Insulin-like peptide 3, a biomarker for Leydig cell function, declines with age in men, unlike testosterone. It is negatively regulated by luteinizing hormone and sex hormone-binding globulin, and positively regulated by follicle-stimulating hormone. It is also negatively associated with increased body weight and smoking. These findings provide a reference range for insulin-like peptide 3 levels in men of different ages.

Male seminal parameters are not associated with Leydig cell functional capacity in men

Ravinder Anand-Ivell et al.

Summary: The study found that INSL3 concentration was not related to any semen parameter, but was negatively correlated with BMI. IN both cohorts, there was a significant relationship between INSL3 and FSH, but not LH concentration. Additionally, INSL3 was not correlated with androgen receptor trinucleotide repeat polymorphisms or the T/LH ratio.

Maternal occupational exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals during pregnancy and semen parameters in adulthood: results of a nationwide cross-sectional study among Swiss conscripts

M. Istvan et al.

Summary: The study found an association between maternal occupational exposure to potential endocrine-disrupting chemicals and a decrease in semen quality of their sons. Further research is needed to confirm this link and to inform pregnant women of potential hazards to their child's fertility.

Maternal Exposure to Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) or Diethylstilbestrol (DES) Leads to Long-Term Changes in Hypothalamic Gene Expression and Sexual Behavior

Damien Hunter et al.

Summary: This study found that maternal exposure to xenobiotics DBP or DES may cause long-term changes in hypothalamic gene expression and reproductive behavior in offspring, particularly leading to significant impact on gene expression and sexual behavior with DES treatment.
