Gut Microbiome and Plasma Metabolome Signatures in Middle-Aged Mice With Cognitive Dysfunction Induced by Chronic Neuropathic Pain

Dongyu Hua et al.

Summary: This study explored the connection between gut microbiota and pain processing as well as cognitive function in patients with chronic neuropathic pain (CNP). The findings suggest that a lower diversity of gut bacteria and an increase in Actinobacteria, Proteus, and Bifidobacterium might contribute to cognitive impairment in CNP patients. Disturbances in the endocannabinoid (eCB) system, lipids, and amino acid metabolism were identified as dominant features of cognitive deficits in CNP patients. Modulating gut microbiota and eCB signaling could serve as therapeutic targets for cognitive deficits in CNP patients.

Electroacupuncture Reduces Fibromyalgia Pain by Attenuating the HMGB1, S100B, and TRPV1 Signalling Pathways in the Mouse Brain

I-Han Hsiao et al.

Summary: Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain and muscle tenderness that is difficult to treat. In this study, researchers used intermittent cold stress to induce fibromyalgia-like pain in mice and investigated the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture (EA). The results showed that EA reversed mechanical and thermal hypersensitivity in the mice. The study also highlighted the involvement of HMGB1, S100B, and TRPV1 pathways in the pain signaling, suggesting potential targets for treating fibromyalgia pain.

The influence of electronic acupuncture at a specific frequency in facilitating the passage of NGF through the blood-brain barrier and its effect on learning and memory in MCAO/R rats

Yibin Zhao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that electronic acupuncture at a specific frequency can enhance the permeability of the blood-brain barrier and induce the entry of nerve growth factor into the brain to exert therapeutic effects. This research helps to understand the mechanism of blood-brain barrier repair and provides a new strategy for drug delivery to the central nervous system.

Arabinoxylan from rice bran protects mice against high-fat diet-induced obesity and metabolic inflammation by modulating gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acids

Shunjing Luo et al.

Summary: This study found that arabinoxylan extracted from rice bran (RAX) can alleviate obesity induced by a high-fat diet. RAX reduces lipid accumulation and inflammation, while also modulating the gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acid production. These findings suggest that RAX may be a potential therapeutic option for preventing and treating obesity.

Average gut flora in healthy Japanese subjects stratified by age and body mass index

Naofumi Yoshida et al.

Summary: Imbalance of gut microbiota is linked to the pathogenesis of various diseases, but the definition of normal gut microbiota remains unclear. This study aimed to establish the average gut microbiota in the healthy Japanese population. Analysis of gut microbial data from fecal samples of 6,101 individuals revealed differences in gut microbiota based on age and body mass index. The study provides valuable information for understanding host-gut microbe interactions and disease susceptibility.

Tianlin Liu et al.

Summary: Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) significantly reduces the cumulative duration of postoperative cognitive decline (POCD) in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic radical colon cancer surgery. The study found that TEAS may regulate inflammatory factors and neuropeptides associated with the gut-brain axis.
