Portable Electrochemical DNA Sensors Based on Gene Amplification Reactions to Screen and Identify Pathogen and SNPs

Eiichi Tamiya

Summary: This paper introduces portable sensors based on genetic measurements for diagnosing infectious diseases and disease risk using SNPs. The sensors utilize electrochemical measurements with printed electrodes to detect changes in nucleic acid-binding molecules and monitor the amplification of specific genes. The method has been successfully applied to measure pathogenic microorganisms and viruses, as well as diagnose SNPs related to Alzheimer's disease.

A Broad-Range Disposable Electrochemical Biosensor Based on Screen-Printed Carbon Electrodes for Detection of Human Noroviruses

Nan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, an electrochemical biosensor based on a screen-printed carbon electrode was developed for the rapid detection of human noroviruses (HuNoVs). The biosensor showed high sensitivity and specificity, and could detect different genogroups and genotypes of HuNoVs. The detection limit of HuNoVs in clinical fecal samples was 10(4) genomic copies/mL. The results could be obtained within 1 hour.
