Brain-Targeted Aggregation-Induced-Emission Nanoparticles with Near-Infrared Imaging at 1550 nm Boosts Orthotopic Glioblastoma Theranostics

Jiefei Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents the development of brain-targeted near-infrared IIb aggregation-induced-emission nanoparticles via rational design, achieving a balance between fluorescence imaging and photothermal therapy demands. The nanoparticles, grafted with ApoE peptide, demonstrate efficient BBB traversal and enhanced survival in mice with orthotopic GBM, highlighting a new theranostic approach for the treatment of GBM.

Si-Rhodamine Derivatives for Brain Fluorescence Imaging and Monitoring of H2S in the Brain of Schizophrenic Mice before and after Treatment

Yujie Geng et al.

Summary: This study designed and synthesized a near-infrared fluorescent probe that can image the changes of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the brains of schizophrenic patients. The probe showed good penetration ability through the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and high brain uptake. It was successfully proven that there is an abnormally high level of H2S in the brains of schizophrenic mice. The fluorescence imaging of the probe can also be used to evaluate the therapeutic effect of risperidone for the treatment of schizophrenia.

A Polymeric Nanobeacon for Monitoring the Fluctuation of Hydrogen Polysulfides during Fertilization and Embryonic Development

Yibo Zhou et al.

Summary: This study used a polymeric nanobeacon to investigate the fluctuation of H2Sn during early embryonic development. The results showed that the level of H2Sn significantly increased after fertilization, then was partially suppressed during embryonic development, and finally remained stable.

Brain region specificity in reactive oxygen species production and maintenance of redox balance

Andrey Y. Vinokurov et al.

Summary: The brain produces various reactive oxygen species at different rates in different brain regions, with the brain stem and cerebellum being more sensitive to oxidative stress. Mitochondrial ROS has minor implications to total ROS production, and levels of lipid peroxidation and GSH vary across brain regions.

Hydrogen sulfide is neuroprotective in Alzheimer's disease by sulfhydrating GSK3β and inhibiting Tau hyperphosphorylation

Daniel Giovinazzo et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is characterized by memory, executive, and motor function deterioration, with neuropathological hallmarks including neurofibrillary tangles, paired helical filaments, and amyloid plaques. Dysregulation of signaling by hydrogen sulfide has been shown during aging and may play a role in preventing hyperphosphorylation of Tau in Alzheimer's disease. Furthermore, administering the H2S donor sodium GYY4137 to mouse models of Alzheimer's disease has been shown to ameliorate motor and cognitive deficits associated with the disease.

An Activatable Near-Infrared Fluorescence Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Donor for Imaging H2S Release and Inhibiting Inflammation in Cells

Xinyue Zhao et al.

Summary: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a vital endogenous signal molecule with critical physiological functions, but its site-specific delivery and release in biological systems remains a challenge. The newly developed Pro-S donor shows excellent release efficiency and live-cell compatibility, allowing real-time capturing of H2S and demonstrating anti-inflammatory effects in cells.
