Neonatal and early childhood outcomes following maternal anesthesia for cesarean section: a population-based cohort

Rachel Joyce Kearns et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of general anesthesia on neonatal and childhood development outcomes during cesarean section, finding that regardless of urgency, the use of general anesthesia is associated with neonatal resuscitation, low Apgar scores, and neonatal unit admission. The strongest associations were observed in non-urgent cases and at term. Additionally, there was a weak correlation between the use of general anesthesia in emergency cases and having <= 1 concern noted in developmental assessment at 2 years old.
