Residual cancer burden after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and long-term survival outcomes in breast cancer: a multicentre pooled analysis of 5161 patients

Christina Yau et al.

Summary: This study analyzed data from multiple independent cohorts to evaluate the relationship between residual cancer burden (RCB) and long-term prognosis in different subtypes of breast cancer. The results showed that higher RCB score was significantly associated with worse event-free survival in all breast cancer subtypes. The study suggests considering the evaluation of RCB as part of standard pathology reporting.

Axillary Nodal Metastases in Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Versus Invasive Ductal Carcinoma: Comparison of Node Detection and Morphology by Ultrasound

Hannah L. Chung et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the ability of ultrasound to detect metastatic axillary nodes and the characteristics of metastatic nodes between invasive lobular carcinoma and invasive ductal carcinoma. The results showed that ultrasound detected a lower percentage of nodal metastases in lobular carcinoma, and the nodal metastases in lobular carcinoma more commonly showed diffuse cortical thickening and less hilar mass effect.

Changes in Management Strategy and Impact of Neoadjuvant Therapy on Extent of Surgery in Invasive Lobular Carcinoma of the Breast: Analysis of the National Cancer Database (NCDB)

Rita A. Mukhtar et al.

Summary: Primary surgery remains the most common treatment strategy for patients with ILC. However, there was a slight decrease in NAC use while a small increase in long-course NET was observed. Long-course NET was associated with increased rates of BCS and less extensive axillary surgery in specific patient populations.

Accuracy of breast MRI in evaluating nodal status after neoadjuvant therapy in invasive lobular carcinoma

Mary Kathryn Abel et al.

Summary: Breast MRI after neoadjuvant therapy in patients with ILC showed low accuracy in predicting nodal status, but may help identify patients with a high burden of nodal disease (>= 4 positive nodes), potentially impacting pre-operative systemic therapy decisions. Further studies are needed to evaluate other imaging modalities for nodal disease assessment following neoadjuvant therapy in ILC patients.
