Linking range wide energetic tradeoffs to breeding performance in a long-distance migrant

Camilo Carneiro et al.

Summary: The study reveals that Icelandic whimbrels tradeoff higher migration costs with more favorable wintering conditions, resulting in a more positive energetic balance during winter by migrating further. However, these differences do not seem to have a significant carry-over effect on the breeding season.

Advancement in long-distance bird migration through individual plasticity in departure

Summary: The study shows that there is a population-level change in the timing of bird migration driven by individual progress, but adaptive responses to global change are limited by behavioral and environmental constraints en route.
