Engagement With a Mobile Phone-Based Life Skills Intervention for Adolescents and Its Association With Participant Characteristics and Outcomes: Tree-Based Analysis

Raquel Paz Castro et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the engagement of adolescents with a mobile phone-based life skills program and its associations with their characteristics, substance use, and mental health outcomes. The results showed that most of the adolescents participated in the program, but efforts should be made to increase engagement among problem drinkers and ensure the effectiveness of interventions across different educational levels.

Text messaging interventions for reducing alcohol consumption among risky drinkers: systematic review and meta-analysis

Marcus Bendtsen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the effects of text messaging interventions on alcohol consumption among risky drinkers. Results showed that text messaging interventions may help reduce self-reported episodes of heavy drinking and weekly alcohol consumption, but doubts exist about the overall quality of the evidence, primarily due to attrition and performance bias, heterogeneity, and the influence of pilot trials on estimates.

A Mobile Phone-Based Life-Skills Training Program for Substance Use Prevention Among Adolescents: Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial

Severin Haug et al.

Summary: The study aimed to test the appropriateness and short-term efficacy of a mobile phone-based life-skills training program to prevent substance use among adolescents within a controlled trial. Findings showed good acceptance and initial effectiveness of the intervention program, with promising results in preventing or reducing substance use and fostering life skills. Data from the final 18-month follow-up assessments will provide a more conclusive understanding of the program's efficacy.
