Association between hepatic and systemic inflammation and localized stage II/III periodontitis in young males: The CHIEF Oral Health study

Kun-Zhe Tsai et al.

Summary: The study observed that an association between hepatic inflammation and localized periodontitis in Taiwanese was only present when systemic inflammation co-existed. This might explain the racial difference in the association reported in Japanese populations but not in non-Asian populations in prior studies.

Associations of decayed and filled teeth with localized stage II/III periodontitis in young adults: The CHIEF oral health study

Kun-Zhe Tsai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the associations between treated and untreated dental caries and periodontitis in young adults. The results showed a positive association between decayed tooth numbers and localized stage II/III periodontitis, and an inverse association between filled tooth numbers and localized stage II/III periodontitis.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between oral hygiene and the risk of hypertension and type 2 diabetes. The findings suggest that brushing teeth at least twice a day can significantly reduce the risk of developing these conditions.

Summary: Greater physical fitness may lead to greater left ventricular mass, and the associations between cardiometabolic risk markers and left ventricular mass may vary by sex in physically active adults.

Comparisons of various anthropometric indexes with localized Stage II/III periodontitis in young adults: The CHIEF oral health study

Kun-Zhe Tsai et al.

Summary: The study found that obesity defined by various anthropometric indexes was consistently associated with localized Stage II/III periodontitis in young adults, and a J-shaped relationship was found for BMI.

Associations between metabolic biomarkers and localized stage II/III periodontitis in young adults: The CHIEF Oral Health study

Kun-Zhe Tsai et al.

Summary: The study found that waist circumference, serum triglycerides, and serum uric acid were associated with an increased risk of localized stage II/III periodontitis, while total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, and blood pressure showed no significant associations. Fasting glucose had a non-linear relationship with localized stage II/III periodontitis, with a turning point at 105 mg/dl.

Periodontitis, Blood Pressure, and the Risk and Control of Arterial Hypertension: Epidemiological, Clinical, and Pathophysiological Aspects-Review of the Literature and Clinical Trials

Stanislaw Surma et al.

Summary: Arterial hypertension is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease, but there is insufficient understanding of its causative factors. Periodontitis may lead to increased blood pressure and ineffective treatment of hypertension. Treating periodontitis could lower blood pressure in patients with arterial hypertension.

Hypertension and Periodontitis: A Joint Report by the Italian Society of Hypertension (SIIA) and the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIdP)

Summary: Evidence suggests an independent association between high blood pressure and periodontitis, possibly mediated by low-grade inflammation. Oral health should be considered as a risk factor for high blood pressure, and individuals with periodontal diseases may benefit from oral care during hypertension management.
