Automating Pitted Red Blood Cell Counts Using Deep Neural Network Analysis: A New Method for Measuring Splenic Function in Sickle Cell Anaemia

Amina Nardo-Marino et al.

Summary: The spleen plays a vital role in defending the body against bacterial infections. This study proposes an automated method for counting pitted red blood cells (RBCs) using deep neural network analysis and evaluates the durability of fixed RBCs. The results show that the automated counts are comparable to manual counts and that fixed samples can be stored for long periods without affecting the measurement.
