Restrictive diffusion and hydrodesulfurization reaction of dibenzothiophenes over NiMo/SBA-15 catalysts

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a macromolecular organosulfur compound 2,8-DPPDBT and prepared three NiMo-supported SBA-15 catalysts with different pore sizes. The diffusion behaviors of the compound in the catalysts were investigated, and a correlation between effective diffusivity and the molecule-to-pore size ratio was proposed. This empirical correlation provides theoretical guidance for the design of efficient heavy oil hydrodesulfurization catalysts.

Low-temperature total oxidation of methane by pore- and vacancy-engineered NiO catalysts

Yuan Shu et al.

Summary: Designing methane combustion catalysts operated under low temperature remains a challenge. In this study, a NiO catalyst with abundant oxygen vacancies and a high-specific surface area was successfully prepared using NaCl as a crystalline scaffold. The mesoporous NiO exhibited excellent CH4 combustion performance and the key role of surface lattice oxygen and reaction mechanism were revealed by various experiments. Furthermore, doping La improved the stability of NiO.

Entropy-stabilized metal-CeOxsolid solutions for catalytic combustion of volatile organic compounds

Yuan Shu et al.

Summary: By increasing the configurational entropy, five metal dopants were successfully introduced into the lattice of ceria, resulting in a catalyst with abundant active oxygen species and multiple reactive sites, leading to enhanced performance in the oxidation of volatile organic compounds. The catalyst exhibited exceptional stability in both thermal and hydrothermal conditions, working for over 200 hours in a water-resistance experiment.

Kinetics toward mechanism and real operation for ultra-deep hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation of diesel

Yachen Yin et al.

Summary: In the process of ultra-deep hydrodesulfurization of diesel, two lumped kinetic models and a four-lump kinetic model of aromatic hydrosaturation are proposed. The study found that thermodynamics play a crucial role in UHDS, and also revealed the temperature dependence of organonitrogen inhibition on HDS.

A perspective on the catalytic hydrogenation of aromatics by Co(Ni)MoS phases

Herve Toulhoat

Summary: This paper discusses the importance of catalytic hydrogenation in upgrading aromatics into fuels and petrochemical bases, as well as the rim-edge model, the exceptional hydrogenation activities of NiMoS supported on NiSx, and the effects of doping with elements such as phosphorous, boron, and fluorine.

DFT insights into the hydrodesulfurization mechanisms of different sulfur-containing compounds over CoMoS active phase: Effect of the brim and CUS sites

Peng Zheng et al.

Summary: Density functional theory calculations were used to investigate the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) mechanisms of different sulfur-containing compounds on various sites, revealing that the brim site is more favorable for the HDS reactions of thiophene and benzothiophene, while both brim and CUS sites are involved in the DBT and 4,6-DMDBT HDS processes. The proposed mechanism suggests a synergistic effect of brim and CUS sites for the HDS reaction of highly refractory organic sulfides.

Single-atom Pt promotion of industrial Co-Mo-S catalysts for ultra-deep hydrodesulfurization

Christian Frederik Weise et al.

Summary: The Pt-Co-Mo-S catalyst contains mainly single-layer MoS2 nanocrystals with Co atoms fully covering the S-edge terminations, and Pt atoms uniquely attached to corner and edge sites in a platinum(IV) sulfide-like structural motif. Platinum is suggested to reduce the sulfur binding energy and increase the abundance of coordinately undersaturated sites (CUS) without necessarily changing the reactivity towards 4,6-DMDBT molecules, although further studies are needed for a detailed understanding.

Promoted catalytic hydrodechlorination for deep degradation of chlorophenols over Rh-La/SiO2 catalyst

Jun Xiong et al.

Summary: A highly efficient Rh-La/SiO2 catalyst was developed for deep degradation of chlorophenols, leading to a high yield of cyclohexanol. The presence of La promoter significantly improved the catalytic performance, allowing complete degradation of 4-CP at room temperature.
